Change your own password

Change the password you sign in to PTRS with.

Who can do this

Your profile screen checks no role at all. Anyone who can sign in can open it.

Steps

1. Open your profile and choose Security

The page is headed Profile with three tabs: Account, Preferences and Security. The Security tab's card is Change Password.

2. Fill in the three fields

Current Password, New Password, Confirm New Password. Each has a small icon that reveals what you have typed.

The button stays disabled until the current password is filled in, the new password is at least 8 characters, and the two new fields match. The same 8-character minimum, and a rule that the new password has to differ from the current one, are both checked again once the save is sent.

3. Submit

Two things happen, in order. Your current password is checked first, and a wrong one comes back as "Current password is incorrect." Then the new password is set, marked so that you are not asked to change it again the next time you sign in.

The three fields clear and a success message appears. Your current session keeps working; the change applies the next time you sign in.

What decides whether a password is strong enough

PTRS itself only checks the length. Everything else is a rule set on the sign-in service, and a password it rejects comes back as "Password does not meet complexity requirements." If you need to know the exact rule, it lives with whoever manages your sign-in service, not in PTRS.

The other two tabs

Account

Display name, phone, date of birth and a postal address. The rules PTRS enforces: display name up to 200 characters and not blank if supplied, phone up to 30, address up to 500, country, state and city up to 100, postcode up to 20, and a date of birth that is not in the future.

Preferences

Nothing reads what the Preferences tab saves

Theme, language and dashboard layout are all saved correctly, and read back only by this same tab. Nothing else in PTRS, on any screen, ever reads any of the three. Changing the theme here does not actually change the theme anywhere, and the Parent Portal's own language is chosen by its web address, not by this setting.

The notification switch here is also lossy. Four separate preferences, for incidents, compliance, credentials and attendance, are stored underneath it, and the screen shows a single switch for all four. Reading it back shows on if any one of the four is on. Saving it writes your one choice onto all four at once, so turning the switch on can quietly turn three other things on that were deliberately off.

None of it has any real effect today in any case: PTRS has never sent a notification of any kind, anywhere in the product. See Notifications.
